LA Photoshoot 📸
Awhile ago @laura.tremaine told me I could use her kitchen if I ever wanted to film in it. Naturally I took her up on this and asked if I could have a photoshoot in her kitchen and she said, “It’s all yours!” Because this is who Laura is.

My longtime friend and amazing photographer @carissa_cady_photo and I showed up to her house for the photoshoot and she had the kitchen cleared! She put on an upbeat playlist! We popped bubbles and cheered🍾 She was so excited about my shoot it was making me even more excited 📸

Her good energy brought out my good energy 🪄

Do not underestimate what it means to get over the top excited about the things that bring your friends joy. Tell them with your words. Open your home to them, your laughter, your own good energy.

How Different Salts Enter a Party 😎

🧂 Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt: she is chill, happy to be here and everyone’s bestie. Her secret weapon: Chefs obsess over her.

🧂Table Salt: she thinks she’s the star of the show and if not properly utilized she will get out of control. Her secret weapon: she knows you need her if your meal was under seasoned.

🧂 Pink Himalayan Sea Salt: she’s so cute and dresses the part. Honestly, she’s just happy to be here. Her secret weapon: she brings color to the party and shines in food photography 🎉

Fleur De Sel: she’s dripping in diamonds and knows she’s worth every penny. Her secret weapon: she’s the finisher and the star.

Morton Kosher Salt: also a favorite of the party, except she’s a little more punchy than Diamond Crystal. Her secret weapon: SHE IS SALTY.

3:00pm Sneaky Snack (as coined by @jamiebgolden) 😋

I like my snacks to nearly present in the form of a whole meal, a very savory Almost Meal ™️

3:00pm-6:00pm is usually a weird time for me. I am finishing work, maybe doing a last minute errand, it’s also when I am trying to shut down email so I can feel a little at peace until the next morning…but what has been happening is I look up and it is 5:30 or 6 and I am V HUNGRY and also the one making dinner. Making dinner while I’m super hungry is close to one of my least favorite things to do🥹

So I have started eating a very substantial Almost Meal at 3:00pm. It’s usually leftovers from the night before.

What happened here is I ended up with a small, leftover burger with no bun. So I chopped up the burger and put it over lettuce and here we are. Chips are a must. All burger toppings - a must. Ketchup, mustard, cheese, mayo, pickles.

Then I go to the kitchen and cook dinner, not quite full but also not extremely hungry. Not being hungry is my favorite thing. Do you have a go-to Almost Meal?!

This classic margarita gets a glow up with a Grand Marnier float!

Ingredients:
2 ounces tequila
1 ounce honey simple syrup Juice from half a lime
1 ounce Grand Marnier
salt

🧂Salt rim of glass (optional) by taking a lime wedge and moving it across the top of the glass. Turn glass upside down into a plate of salt. Move around to salt glass. Add large ice sphere to the glass.

🍯 In a shaker filled with ice, add tequila, lime juice, and honey simple syrup. Shake.

🧊 Pour mixture through strainer into salt- rimmed cup with ice sphere.

🪄Pour Grand Marnier over top of ice sphere to finish the margarita with a fun float!

The Everyday Sauce🪄 This sauce is so simple

The Everyday Sauce🪄

This sauce is so simple with ingredients you probably have on hand! It is perfect on wings, chicken sliders, salads, nachos …really everything!

Do not be worried about the Frank’s Red Hot, this sauce is not spicy thanks to the honey and the butter, but if you like it a little sweeter, just add more honey!

The Everyday Sauce
🧈8 tablespoons butter
🫙1/2 cup Frank’s Original Hot Sauce
🍯1/2 cup honey
🧄2 garlic cloves, minced

Combine all of the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Once butter is melted, whisk to combine and remove from heat.

*If you’d like it a little thicker, make a little slurry with 2 teaspoons arrowroot or cornstarch with 2 teaspoons water. Mix to combine. While the sauce is still on the heat whisk in the slurry. Be sure to stir constantly until sauce is thickened!

It was in that moment, while she was sitting at her computer typing that she knew someone was watching her. Not one to get too dramatic (reader, she does get dramatic) she slowly turned and in a loud voice said, “I know you’re back there!”

In response, her small dog peeped past the light fixture, just barely.

And that is when I realized I I need to get out of the house for a bit 😅 Just a quick reminder, if you haven’t gotten out of the house today or taken a Stupid Walk™️ (forever grateful to @erinhmoon for this) maybe right now is the time!

Frosé All Day This is the official drink of sprin

Frosé All Day
This is the official drink of spring! I have had really bad frosés so I typically stay away from them (overly sweet, watered down, bland). Then I just created my own😌 The secret is in freezing the rosé 🤫 ENJOY!

🌹1 bottle (750 ml) Rosé
🌹2 ounces Grand Mariner
🌹3 Tbsp white or cane sugar
🍓4-5 strawberries (fresh or frozen)
🧊1/2 cup ice

Pour the whole bottle of rosé into a shallow baking dish with a lid. Secure lid and place in freezer for at least 8 hours or overnight.
In a blender add the frozen rosé, Grand Marnier, sugar, strawberries and ice.
Blend until there is a slushy consistency (about 20 seconds).
Serve in a coup with a fresh strawberry as a garnish.

I have tried many different ways to peel an egg but this way has worked best every single time! Also, it’s insanely satisfying. I literally think I create a whole world every time I can get the shell off in one go 😅

When I was young, the same favorite color or the s

When I was young, the same favorite color or the same homeroom in high school could put you squarely in best friend status. We’re both wearing pink on Fridays? Time for a bff bracelet. We both wish Timmy would stop with the weird jokes? You’re invited to my sleepover immediately.

But when I got older, friendship was so much more effort, more elusive, less obvious. It turns out a hard friendship situation can’t be solved by throwing that bff bracelet in the trash. Sorry about that by the way, Christy.

But then there was @laura.tremaine.

No one has taught me more about friendship than Laura. Sometimes it was through something she’d say in passing, “Like every selfie.” (She first read this in a poem by @davidgate_ )

She’d casually mention that her husband isn’t her best friend.

I’d vox her to vent about someone mean and I’d want her to be like SHE IS TRASH. But she’d say, that’s your ego, babe. And I knew then that friends tell the truth.

I told her I liked the color of her lipstick and she went through Nordstrom and then Sephora with me to find my perfect shade.

There was also the time she famously announced that the members of her mastermind group (me included) were not her friends🥹

I came to understand that Laura wasn’t just making up rules about friendship along the way. These were philosophies. She had a compass that helped her navigate new and old friendships. She had a life council. In some seasons, 3 people sat on the council. In other seasons, 8.

And so when she set out to write ⭐️The Life Council: 10 Friends Every Woman Needs⭐️ I knew I needed this book.

This is the book that gave me language for adult friendship 👯‍♀️

Freezer Meal Tip! 🪄
When you put a meal in the freezer add the “Eat On” date. For us it’s usually 1-2 months out. Then I add that to my meal planning calendar so when I’m meal planning 4 weeks later I’ll see I’ve already planned for meatball subs which are in the freezer! I put a reminder to pull them out of the freezer the day before and BAM. My frozen meals are working for me!

Can someone please remind me of the plant app that will help me not kill these plants? This is literally a matter of life or death 🥹🪴 NO PRESSURE.

Also, this is what happened, we went to a nursery on Saturday to pick out one new plant and we bought six, naturally. DO NOT WORRY. These plants asked us to take them home with us so we did. We had no choice. This is just being a responsible adult.

While we were at the nursery there was an author event and we met @delaplants! We bought her book Houseplants for Beginners. She was so lovely. Her book is stunning. We had her sign the copy we bought with the following, “Bri & Jer you got this!” And honestly I think we do ☺️ Also crowd sourcing plant names. Ok thank you 🪴

Get maximum pepper without the seeds, stem or white pithy parts!

1. Cut along the top, but not all the way thru
2. Twist and pull the cap!
3. Cut in between the white parts
4. Slice or dice how you see fit!

Throw your wrapped meat (do not unwrap it!) into a big bow of water. Make sure it is submerged. Place back in fridge for 4-5 hours and it will be thawed!

Another popular technique is to place it in the fridge and do carry out 🥹🥹

For reasons I cannot quite explain, I decided a few weeks ago that I was going to master homemade fried fish 🥲 I did the research, I put in the hours, I watched way too many videos of people with delightful accents making fried fish and smashed peas. My favorite part was when the fish was wrapped in newspaper.

Homemade tartar sauce is a must. I am here to tell you I nearly drank this sauce. And the next day I put leftovers on a sandwich and had myself a delightful Filet-O-Fish experience. Extra sauce.

This over the sink, roll up rack is becoming my new obsession. I use it for so much more than drying dishes👇

🫙I use it when I’m measuring messy ingredients so any mess falls into the sink

Hi, I am just dropping in to say that I have forgo

Hi, I am just dropping in to say that I have forgotten how to show up here. Mostly because I have forgotten how to show up anywhere. Life feels very, very fluid right now. I would like a solid piece of land but alas I am on what seems to be some floating shiplap (it’s painted pretty tho).

I’m trying to discern exactly what is happening. Is this a survival situation? Should I be planning for rescue? Do I need to like, catch some fish or something? Or is this a season of rest? Should I just, sleep and sunbathe? But wait…the skin cancer. Do I have SPF? Does skin cancer matter if I am lost at sea? Will someone please tell me what to do with my hands?

I hope it’s just me. But if you are feeling a little misplaced right now, come join me on my driftwood because there is room (I am looking at you Rose from the Titanic… THERE WAS ROOM FOR JACK). I digress …

I don’t have any quick hacks or tips to move us out of this space because I think it is important. I think I am here for a reason and I don’t like it but I’m hopeful for what it means. To be here, a little lost. A little curious.

I think sometimes being moved outside of comfort or certainty can feel so cruel. But I am starting to understand it is as a grand and unfathomable act of Love.

What I do have are these borrowed words from John O’Donohue

I had some (but not a lot) leftover tomato soup from a date night and I also had a nub (a knob?) of baguette. So naturally I put a little grilled cheese cap on the soup 😅 NO REGRETS.
